Fortis Properties Corporation was established in 1989 with the purchase of its first commercial real estate holding in St. John’s, Newfoundland – the Fortis Building.  Since that time the Company has grown significantly.  Today, Fortis Properties owns and operates over 2.8 million square feet of commercial real estate primarily in Atlantic Canada, and 19 hotels throughout Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.  The Company also owns and operates 12 non-regulated hydroelectric plants located in central Newfoundland, Ontario and upstate New York.  Fortis Properties employs over 1,800 people.
