Fortis Properties is pleased to announce the Holiday Inn Peterborough-Waterfront will be 100 per cent non-smoking as of May 8th, 2006.  With this announcement the Holiday Inn Peterborough-Waterfront will not only be Peterborough’s only full-service hotel, but the first of the four major branded hotels in the area to be 100 per cent non-smoking.

Terry Merrill, General Manager, Holiday Inn Peterborough-Waterfront, is pleased to make the transition to a non-smoking facility.  “We have seen increased demand from our guests for smoke-free environments in which to conduct business or enjoy a weekend get-a-way,” said Merrill.  “We are happy to lead the way, while promoting healthy lifestyles for both our guests and employees.”

In addition to transitioning to a smoke-free environment, the hotel is also completing room renovations and upgrades.  “This transition to a smoke-free hotel will be complementary to our new room product,” said Merrill.

Joining the hotel in celebrating this milestone was the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Peterborough.  “We applaud Holiday Inn Peterborough’s decision to go completely smoke-free,” said Jennifer Chenier, Acting Chair of the Coalition.  “They are an excellent example of good corporate citizenship at work.”
