Fortis Properties Corporation today announced the proposed expansion of the Delta St. John’s Hotel and Conference Centre.

The estimated $15 M expansion entails the addition of 126 rooms and approximately 5000 square feet of meeting space. The expansion will adjoin to the western end of the existing Delta property. Subject to normal approvals, the project is scheduled to begin construction later this spring, with completion one year later.

“Since the acquisition of this property in December 2002, the hotel’s performance has exceeded company expectations,” said John Walker, President and CEO of Fortis Properties. “The expansion of this property will enable us to meet market demands and attract additional group convention and conference business to the city.”

The proposed expansion will bring the hotel’s room count to over 400 and increase meeting space capacity, making it the largest convention hotel in Atlantic Canada.
