(ST. JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND) June 1, 2005 - - Fortis Properties’ $15 million expansion to the Delta St. John’s is complete. With the addition of 128 rooms, the property is now Atlantic Canada’s largest hotel and conference centre, boasting 403 bedrooms and 40,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
Prominent additions include 10 leisure suites, 9 Jacuzzi suites, 10 barrier free rooms and a state of the art 1,400 square foot Executive Suite on the 11th floor. “This large project was completed on time, allowing us the opportunity to accommodate the many conference attendees in June as well as visitors to the city throughout the summer months,” said Nora Duke, Vice President, Hospitality Services with Fortis Properties. “With approximately 150 workers clocking over 400,000 hours, this is certainly a great achievement.”
“Since its acquisition in 2002, the Delta St. John’s has performed extremely well and has continued to strengthen the Fortis Properties hospitality portfolio” said Earl Ludlow, President and CEO of the company. “The expansion will help in drawing a greater number of larger conventions to St. John’s, and in turn generate positive economic impact for the city.”
“Expansion at this location demonstrates Fortis Properties’ confidence in this market and our entire team here at the Delta St. John’s,” said Terry Chaffey, General Manager of the Delta St. John’s. “This certainly is an exciting time for all of us.”
